CET or CEST, EST or EDT? Daylight saving explained
CET (UTC+1) is the winter name and CEST (UTC+2) the summer name, used by Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome and most of the EU. “CET” usually means local time there whatever the season, so MeetETA reads it that way.
EST (UTC−5) is the winter name and EDT (UTC−4) the summer name. Most people write “EST” all year and mean whatever the clocks say in New York, so MeetETA reads EST as local Eastern time on the date you pick, and says so when that date is on EDT.
Right now Paris is on CEST, UTC+2 and New York is on EDT, UTC−4 (the clocks at the top of the page always show the live values).
How the gap changes during the year
New York is 6 hours behind Paris for most of the year. For a few weeks it is 5 h, because the two sides change their clocks on different dates.
