GMT or BST? Daylight saving explained
GMT (UTC+0) is UK winter time; from late March to late October the UK is on BST (UTC+1). People who say “GMT” for a London meeting usually mean UK time, so this page uses London time. If you mean GMT as a fixed UTC+0 all year, it is the same as UTC (and that is how the type-a-time box reads the word “GMT”; type “London” for UK time).
IST is India Standard Time, UTC+5:30, used across all of India. India does not use daylight saving, so IST never changes.
Right now London is on BST, UTC+1 and India is on IST, UTC+5:30 (the clocks at the top of the page always show the live values).
How the gap changes during the year
India is 4.5 hours ahead of London while London is on BST, and 5.5 hours ahead of London while London is on GMT.
