GMT or BST, EST or EDT? Daylight saving explained
GMT (UTC+0) is UK winter time; from late March to late October the UK is on BST (UTC+1). People who say “GMT” for a London meeting usually mean UK time, so this page uses London time. If you mean GMT as a fixed UTC+0 all year, it is the same as UTC (and that is how the type-a-time box reads the word “GMT”; type “London” for UK time).
EST (UTC−5) is the winter name and EDT (UTC−4) the summer name. Most people write “EST” all year and mean whatever the clocks say in New York, so MeetETA reads EST as local Eastern time on the date you pick, and says so when that date is on EDT.
Right now London is on BST, UTC+1 and New York is on EDT, UTC−4 (the clocks at the top of the page always show the live values).
How the gap changes during the year
New York is 5 hours behind London for most of the year. For a few weeks it is 4 h, because the two sides change their clocks on different dates.
