PST or PDT? Daylight saving explained
UTC is the world’s reference time. It never changes for daylight saving; every other zone is described as an offset from it.
PST (UTC−8) is the winter name and PDT (UTC−7) the summer name. People usually write “PST” all year and mean local Pacific time (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle), so MeetETA reads it that way and handles daylight saving for you.
Right now UTC is on UTC, UTC+0 and Los Angeles is on PDT, UTC−7 (the clocks at the top of the page always show the live values).
How the gap changes during the year
Los Angeles is 8 hours behind UTC while Los Angeles is on PST, and 7 hours behind UTC while Los Angeles is on PDT.
| Date | What changes | Gap after |
|---|---|---|
| Sun 8 Mar 2026 | Los Angeles moves clocks forward (PST → PDT) | 7 h behind |
| Sun 1 Nov 2026next | Los Angeles moves clocks back (PDT → PST) | 8 h behind |
| Sun 14 Mar 2027 | Los Angeles moves clocks forward (PST → PDT) | 7 h behind |
| Sun 7 Nov 2027 | Los Angeles moves clocks back (PDT → PST) | 8 h behind |
